I started trail running on a regular basis about 2 years ago. I hardly run on the roads anymore. I’ve tried several different shoes. I started with cheap New Balance trail shoes. They hurt and left my feet feeling down and out. I tried a pair of Adidas. They did just fine for a while. Then I hit the long run. They killed my heals if I ran further than 6 miles. So to my point…
I discovered a brand called INOV-8 about 2 years ago. I tried them and was not impressed at first. Rookie mistake. I hung them up and semi retired them. Then, on a good muddy day I decided to switch it up and use my INOV-8 Roclite 305’s. I stuck to the trails like a bug on a windshield. I never slipped. I never ran without them and soon wore them out. I was now in search of a new pair.
I found my love. The Roclite series by INOV-8. I use the 295’s. I like them because they are lite and flexible. They give you a good feel for the trail. They are built tough and can with stand mud, snow, ice and anything else that may get in your way. They kick ass. They have the traction of a soccer style cleat but the comfort of a road shoe. Running single track trails is no problem. Hitting the fire roads for a long 13 miler, no problem. However, running any road type material is a problem. You might as well be running on warm Hubba Bubba.
Running in rain and mud is no problem for them either. I have even run in 4 inches of snow and never missed a stride. They dry quickly and never give me issues even when wet.
I have been completely satisfied with my Roclite shoes. My feet never hurt after long runs. Turning an ankle or tweaking a knee on the single track never happens. I am not saying its totally because of this shoe, but I will give it more credit than not. I plan on buying a new pair soon enough. However, with over 230 miles on them, they are still showing NO signs of wear, so the shopping may have to wait.
